Artists Tell Their Stories is a weekly internationally-read blog, featuring stories written by artists of all disciplines and abilities. Each of the 52 artists featured this year tells us their personal story of why they do what they do. We are not a how-to blog. Rather, these are their personal stories, offering insight in to what motivates and inspires them to create the work they do. We invite you to take a few minutes out of your day to read this week's story and view this week's artist's work. When you have time, browse back through the stories of other talented artists. The blog is dedicated to sharing the work and personal stories of 52 artists each year. Founded by Brenda Smoak in 2014 to high-light an occasional artist, the blog quickly developed into a weekly respite for artists and art lovers. Brenda strives to feature interesting artists with compelling stories while also showcasing their work. She seeks to include artists from all disciplines and abilities.
A visual artist with a long history of community building and collaboration, artist representation and marketing, Brenda started out as a decorative painter working for Smallbone of Devises as their West Coast painter. After moving to DC, she worked with interior designers and architects in many public and private venues. Later, her fair trade art gallery, Alchemy, became a popular venue that featured over 140 local artisans. When the gallery closed, due to impending construction in the area, it was clear that artists needed a way to get their story out to the public. Hence, Artists Tell Their Stories was born. She is now in her 4th year of featuring a new artist every week.
